Loebsack Launches New Congressional Site
Dave Loebsack has upgraded his official web site from the generic new member version.
The new features at loebsack.house.gov include video of floor speeches, photos ranging from his Iraq visit to pancake flipping at the ICARE breakfast, and an issue poll. Press releases are low on the first page, with the first one peeking up from the bottom of the screen (at 1024 x 768 screen resolution). There's a link to roll call votes, but it's driven by the House Clerk's office and you need to click through on each bill and find Loebsack's name in the actual roll call. For fun you can refresh the page and play spot the scene with the rotating background pictures of district scenes at the top of the page. Iowa City is represented by the Old Capitol; there's also an aerial shot of downtown Cedar Rapids and the Mississippi River bridge at Burlington.
But no blog. Yet.
The Iowa House delegation's official sites are not especially political, save for the titles of Steve King's press releases ("If You Want To Euthanize the Rule of Law, Support the Senate Amnesty Bill" is typical). The most political item on Loebsack's front page is a link to stopglobalwarming.org, and the word "Democrat" isn't found except in the text of press releases. Leonard Boswell displays a large, prominent "Blue Dog Conservative Democrat" logo, as if begging for a primary challenge. Bruce Braley has a header photo with riverboats and a ripe tomato. Interestingly, Tom Latham offers a link to the Babelfish translation service; Steve King, not surprisingly, does not.
