Morning-After Roundup: Hillary & Edwards

Morning-After Roundup: Hillary & Edwards

Yes, I know I'm blowing off Biden in Des Moines and Rudy in CR. Another day, perhaps.

Clinton

  • Press-Citizen leads with She Was Here; a second story starts with the story of Ike "calling" her teacher.

  • Gazette goes with audience reactions a lot

  • Register leads with HRC's react to Bush's veto threat of the war $/deadline; also has the most pics

  • DI also goes with the war

    Edwards

  • Nate Willems blogs it for MyDD.
Senator Edwards' best line is still, "It is time for Americans to be patriotic about something other than war." And it is a very nice transition to talk about an economic, populist message that these activists wanted to hear. This audience was a little older, and if John Edwards is going to be the only Democrat to bear some resemblance to Harry Truman, Hubert Humphrey, or Tom Harkin - substantively and stylistically - then I think he has a real advantage with Iowa Democrats over 50. That is to say, of the group of Democrats who are virtually certain to attend a caucus, he may have an edge.

  • Gazette: Edwards: Leave Iraq. That's concise.

  • Register has a weird lead of "no one asked about Elizabeth's health." Well, probably because they got that out of the way first thing with Elizabeth's presence and John's short, thanks for the support comments.

  • DI goes with a health care lead.

  • Press-Citizen blows it off and talks about the basketball coach. Not that I have anything against basketball coaches, my dad was one. (Speaking of Dad, happy birthday.) But it's not all that far to Cedar Rapids, folks. Maybe the print edition has the AP story.
