Iowa City: Looks Like a Primary

A fifth candidate emerges for city council at large:

Iowa City resident Tim Judd, 26, will run for one of two at-large seats available this election season.

Judd moved to Iowa City eight years ago. He has worked on various local and national campaigns, including council member Amy Correia's campaign in 2005.

Last spring, Judd graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in political science and minors in sociology and psychology. He is the youngest council candidate so far.

"It doesn't have anything do with age, only the issues," Judd said. "I feel like I have in my time here garnered a good perspective on what the city needs."

Judd said he supports public safety initiatives, such as building the fourth fire station and hiring additional police officers. He is against the 21-ordinance, thinking students should be given a certain level of "autonomy."

Five candidates, assuming they all follow through and file, means an October 9 primary.
