Full News Chopper Veto CoverageFLASH... FLASH... FLASH... BREAKING... BREAKING... BREAKING... DANGER, WILL ROBINSON, DANGER...
OK, so maybe it's the biggest surprise since that unexpected sunrise yesterday, but
The Commander Guy vetoes the funding slash deadline bill. Here's that
roll call. Most of the Defund Now Dems (Maxine Waters, Barbara Lee, John Lewis, etc.) who were No votes on passage are Yes votes to override, but in his constant effort to draw attention to himself Dennis K. is the lone Present vote. Iowans again vote on party lines.
iPol has a good roundup of Democratic candidate reacts to the veto.
John Edwards hits the airwaves with "Again and Again" ad urging Congress to send Bush the same bill. Interesting spot: it's just regular folks all the way through with the candidate's only appearance the legally required "approved this message" at the end. See it at Common Iowan. From the inbox, John asks me to upload video - and, oh yeah, kick in some bucks to run it.
Jesse Tangkhpanya at the DI gives the congressional Dems a Play of The Week despite the override's defeat: "They forced Bush's hand (literally) and forced the Republicans to stand by the 30-something percent of what's left of his lame-duck presidency."
Other stuff that didn't fit anywhere else the last couple days:
American Research Group polls three of the first four states - how about Nevada? I'm interested in how tightly they code their answers, as 16% seems like a waaaay low Iowa Democratic "undecided" number.
The Register tries to get more mileage out of the Obama "nobody has suffered more than the Palestinian people" reply from six weeks ago. Hint: your own article indicates that both the Israel lobby and James Zogby at the Arab-American Institute are satisfied with Obama's responses...
