Following up on the letter a couple weeks ago from State Senate leaders (I made my own comments at that time), Vilsack is stepping up as well:
Vilsack and Lt. Gov. Sally Pederson sent a joint letter to school superintendents and principals, urging them to adopt the model local school board policy their administration developed to stem harassment, bullying, hazing or other intentional victimization based on a variety of factors including race, sex, religion or sexual orientation.
"All students have a right to feel safe from bullying," they wrote. "Sadly, this is not the current reality."
"Harassment of any kind seriously disrupts the ability of students to learn and succeed," Vilsack said. "We must say, in the strongest language, that every child, every person, deserves to be treated with dignity and respect."
